Macassar Ebony with Lilac and Purple Heart
This pendant was crafted from macassar ebony, lilac, and purple heart. In my humble opinion, macassar ebony has much more depth in the grain than regular (gaboon) ebony; its a lighter black with more colouration, you can see more of its pattern. I wanted to inlays to pop, so I used lilac. It is much lighter and has a gorgeous brown and purple grain, also featuring streaks through its grain. The purple heart was chosen for this piece because it matches the lilac and because its purple wood, why shouldn’t I use it?
