Spalting Lilac Pendant with Purple Heart Inlay
This piece was extremely difficult to work, however the results were stunning. It was difficult to work because the erratic spalting in this piece. The white was eaten by fungi and the black lines are where to fungi releases proteins to break down the wood. This left random soft spots in the wood, where as lilac is harder than maple. The purple heart brings out the purple undertones in the wood.
